Drip irrigation has made gardening in my backyard fun again during the summer time. I am currently hand watering several grow bags right now and what a difference in water retention after adding mulch. Beautiful garden!

Screen house is better. It provides a minimum of shade in the summer. Let’s in what rain we get here. Allows air flow to minimize mold fungus issues. Cost far less.

Love your channel! I also love watching my 43 sunflowers grow in my backyard here in Mesa, AZ ❤ I was SO GLAD to hear that I can grow more now, here in June and they can handle the heat!! I just cut down 7 & want to continue to see them out there! Is there a month that you wouldn't recommend to plant in the ground/plant cloth potting containers? I believe I live in zone 9b - NE Mesa. Red Mtn Ranch/Las Sendas area. Any tips on when NOT to plant? Thanks in advance! 🌵

I have two in ground worm bins. The worms are doing well but I don’t see any evidence that they are moving out of the bins into the garden bed. I am assuming as long as I feed them there is no reason to leave?

I tried running a swamp cooler just like that but it left mineral deposits on everything, like a thin film. I think RO water would mitigate this issue but thats another expense.

Hi @Growing In The Garden. Hope all is well. I have few questions to ask. May I please know the rationale behind as to why oil, meat/bones and dairy products should be avoided? Also can I add cow/horse manure to my compost? And lastly, I live near the coast and have access to seaweed so would that also be beneficial for my compost if i toss some? Thank you for sharing this information. New follower here 😊 Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards from Philippines.

I keep one in the house all year round in soil in a room with only indirect light. They grow like crazy. I get so many from one that I usually cut and toss until I need more. already rooted too. Treat as a house plant. I keep soil moist I spritz it next to my tropical plants.. house temp is an even 73 degrees. But I can see where putting in the garden outside would eliminate the sun transition.. I have to be very careful when bringing mine outside because they wilt like crazy as soon as the sun hits them.

Mulch IS a miracle!!! I just started mulching and my water needs have decreased by 2/3rds!!! I can’t believe it. I’m using alfalfa. It’s great cause as it starts to break down I can scoop it off into my compost. My plants are loving it and it’s cheap!

Best tip I can share that I didn't snag from you, (as my two favorites I learned from you this year) is collect FREE resources from businesses that are throwing them out! For example, I collect buckets (some with lids) from a local restaurant to grow plants in and collect wine bottles from wine shops and beer bottles from my neighbor to place in my terracotta watering stakes. I purchased compost bins (and now planning "worm farm" bins for cheap from Goodwill (some with lids) and other thrift stores. Sometimes neighbors toss them and can snatch them FREE. And, recently found there's a local company that will deliver a large amount soil and mulch for $25 each. (SOUL- Next year goals) Much cheaper than hitting stores for bags plus much easier and more affordable than renting a flatbed truck to have the local landfill fill with soil! The Cooperative Extension in my area offers classes, FREE seeds and since I teach and have a gardening club, they also give FREE herb transplants for my class garden. 😊 This is great because three times this week, I stopped and wondered how to get more productivity for less resources going out. Milk jugs from my niece for starting sweet potato slips. I plan to see about starting a seed exchange and transplant exchange next year at my school. Might even get that accomplished for the fall.

I can't figure out for the life of me how you do it. I am also in Mesa and have nothing but trouble with my garden. Tomato leaves curl up and buds drop off, IF the whole plant doesn't just dry up and die. Kale and carrots were the only things that grew for me this year. String beans, lettuce, cucumbers, watermelons, chard, and tomatoes were all complete failures. I have one bed that I added mulch to, and that only made it worse. Everything there died immediately. I water deeply every other day in the morning, used all new raised garden soil, 2.5 feet deep, no pest problems (except, for some reason, on my spinach), and 10-12 hours of full sun. Back in Massachusetts I had more tomatoes than I could eat. I grew everything I'm trying to grow here, very successfully. I am very discouraged.
